History of Kasaan
Kasaan is one of only two Haida communities that remain intact in Alaska.  Because of this unique status within the Haida Nation; the community and Tribal members of Kasaan are the keepers of a rich and unique cultural heritage.  The Tribe offers a variety of programs through its departments of Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, Transportation, Health and Social Services, Housing and Economic Development.  The village of Kasaan has 64 permanent residents and an additional 160+ Tribal members who are currently living away from Kasaan.
